SUPPLEMENTS FOR KIDS
I often get questions about the best supplements for kids, and what I give my children. Since we eat a plant-based diet I do give them a few supplements. Grace is also not nursing anymore so she doesn’t have that added immunity benefit. Therefore, I’ve started giving her a multi-vitamin. You know how important clean, non-toxic ingredients are to me, so I’ve done lots of research on the best supplements for kids. Here’s what I’ve found!
SUPPLEMENTS I GIVE MY NEWBORN
When we first took Gracie (our first baby) to the doctor, she asked me whether I was breastfeeding or formula feeding. When I told her I planned to exclusively breastfeed, she mentioned that Vitamin D drops were a good ideas as mom doesn’t pass Vitamin D to baby through breastmilk. I was hesitant but after doing a bit more research I opted to find a good Vitamin D supplement.
At first look, many of the drops had dyes, preservatives, and additives that I was not happy about. I had to do some further digging. Enter Wellements Organic Vitamin D Drops for newborns. I was pleased to see only THREE ingredients on the bottle. Here they are: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Vitamin D3 (as Cholecalciferol), Palm Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil. Dyes needed? Nope. Hidden preservatives? None! I was super pleased. Norah is a little champ too and doesn’t mind them one bit. I just give them to her once a day.
If you have a little one who is prone to gas or tummy issues, try the Wellements Organic Gripe Water for little ones! It’s made with certified organic herbs such as fennel, ginger, and chamomile. I hear it works wonders 🙂
SUPPLEMENTS I GIVE MY TODDLER
I am thankful that Gracie didn’t get sick often while I was breastfeeding her. Breastmilk is miraculous in that way, but at around 30 months she significantly stopped breastfeeding and usually nursed once a day until she eventually weaned herself. I was heartbroken but even more worried about her immunity. She’d only been sick twice in almost three years, and after she stopped nursing she started getting colds left and right.
I told my husband I needed to find a good multi-vitamin for her. I have been giving her the Wellements Organic Multi-Vitamin Drops. I love that they’re allergen-free (free of dairy, soy), and free of harmful things like preservaties, parabens and dyes. All unnecessary ingredients that I don’t want my child ingesting. Another plus? The Vitamin A in these vitamins is from Beta-Carotene, meaning it’s natural form! No synthetic stuff here.
I’ve mentioned this before, but in addition to the multi-vitamin I give Gracie, I also give her a Vitamin B12 spray. It’s an easy and quick task. Plus it’s the same one I take each day. I do this because B12 is only an animal-derived vitamin. Therefore, we supplement!
And that’s it! These products are inexpensive, safe for my children, and help their health and immunity.
Thank you so much for reading!
