Did you know that October is breast cancer awareness month? One of my great grandmothers had extremely long fight with breast cancer for many years. So this is a month that is very important to me. In recognition of Pink October, I’ve partnered with Stage Stores to share a time I felt strong and overcame something that seemed impossible.
Pink October | A Moment When I Felt Strong
My Successful VBAC
Giving birth is something that requires letting go of any sort of “plan” or idea of how you want something to go. In fact, it requires a great deal of surrender, patience, and strength. Some births are fairly uneventful and others are extremely traumatic. For me, my first birth wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I went through some trauma, and if you read my successful VBAC birth story, you know that I was determined to change things the second time around.
I spent countless hours researching and preparing for my unmedicated vaginal birth after cesarean. It was something I wanted more than anything. I researched tirelessly, so when the big day came, I put all of my tools to use.
Fortunately, my birth went extremely well. I pushed my baby out in under seventeen minutes, with no medication. I spent time laboring at home, being patient, and trying to keep myself centered through it all. It wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever done, but it was one of the most rewarding experiences.
After it was all said and done, we talked about it so much. My husband was so proud of me. We still sit around and chat about the experience. The minor hiccups we had driving to the hospital, or things I’d said along the way. But overall it was such an empowering experience.
I suppose I’m sharing all of this with you to show support. That women are capable of so much.
What can you do?
The real goal with this post is to support all women. Especially those who are currently fighting. I can only imagine how scary it must feel to receive a diagnosis like breast cancer. I also can imagine how much strength and will is required of those women. It breaks my heart that breast cancer is such a prevalent disease. It’s also something I think about often, having two daughters.
All month long, Stage Stores is raising money towards the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) in different ways all month long. Some of their items will be discounted this month, so you can purchase those items to help contribute toward the cause, or you can participate in local events at your local Stage stores! Lastly, you can share a moment you felt strong or empowered as a woman using this hashtag: #IPINKICAN, to raise awareness about Pink October! Stage Stores will be donating $1 to BCRF for each moment shared on Facebook or Instagram during October with the hashtag. Find out more here.
