I’ve completely stopped taking pictures with my

I’ve completely stopped taking pictures with my phone. I used to scroll social media in front of my girls when they were little but as they got older and realized that I was giving my phone attention and not them, I completely stopped... it isn’t worth it to me. So now if I need to use my phone for something, I go into another room for a few minutes and do what I need to do. I started this habit about 2 years ago, (my husband is also wonderful at staying off of his phone in front of the girls during non-work hours) but I still used my phone to take photos pretty regularly.

Recently I realized that I am just much more present with them when my phone is completely away. This means two things. 1. I carry around a super clunky dslr, and 2. The pictures I do take are 1,000x better 😂 but truly, it is nice to not have a ton of digital clutter on my phone and to actually use my nice camera to capture our special memories. Because 65,000 pictures on a phone is just obnoxious. 🤪 How do you practice mindfulness and stay present with your kids? Do you have a baby lamp in your kitchen? Honestly, a lamp on in the evenings is the equivalent of a beeswax candle in the morning for me 😍 If you don’t have a little lamp on your kitchen counter, this is your nudge to go for it! ✨

Signs that it was the weekend. ✨
-Sunday reading (we only read from these two books, and the Bible on Sunday. This is “Parables from Nature” and James Herriot’s “Treasury for Children”

“I would suggest special books only to be given out on Sundays, and not kept in the same shelf with the other books read during the week, if possible, so as to have special associations for that day. … We want the children to have bright and happy associations with their Sunday, but at the same time we want to make the distinction between that and the other six days of the week.” (Our Children’s Play, Mrs. Hatchell of the PNEU)

Other activities include...
-paper sloyd with Dad
-sourdough bread making
-pre-reading & planning for our homeschool week
-a hike or two + time spent together in the forest 🍂

One of my girls’ favorite parts of our day is ou

One of my girls’ favorite parts of our day is our drill/play/singing block. It’s a 30 minute break between our early morning lessons and late morning lessons that helps us stretch our legs, laugh together, and learn something new. So far this year we’ve worked on several Swedish Drill positions, a Russian folk dance called the “Sasha” and a singing game called “Jump, Jim, Joe”. (Swipe to see videos!)

It reminds me so much of my teaching in a kindergarten classroom days. 💓Bookmarking these sweet moments in my memory and just soaking in the fun ages of these two little ladies. Just look at the joy on my little G’s face in three last video as we dance together... it makes all of the planning, hard work, and time well worth it. (Forever thankful to @the.cmec for all of their wonderful resources!) #lichomeschool

Things I never want to forget: -How every adult th

Things I never want to forget:
-How every adult they encounter is a “mommy” or “daddy” even if there are no kids with them.

-The way N has to hold my hand on our walks, or pretty much anywhere.

-How G genuinely asks me every night to look at her “backyard birds of North America” book together and listen to the bird calls.

-How N sings “Edelweiss” in the bath tub.

-How G reads to herself at night before bed, narrating entire chapters of Winnie the Pooh and Little House without even realizing it.

-How content they are splashing in a small creek for hours.

What a pleasure and honor it is to have them in my life. I have countless beautiful photos of moments like this on my real camera but I’m thankful, always, for these little phone snaps that capture our days together. #lichomeschool #charlottemasoneducation

I’ve completely stopped taking pictures with my phone. I used to scroll social media in front of my girls when they were little but as they got older and realized that I was giving my phone attention and not them, I completely stopped... it isn’t worth it to me. My summer reads so far ☀️ these are “for me” books, as I’m spending most of my reading time pre-reading almost every book we will read this year for our homeschool. More on that later!

Here is what I’ve finished so far:
-Know and Tell by Karen Glass (the art of narration)
-The Living Page by Laurie Bestvater (notebooking in our homeschool)
-Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon (an ancient approach to nutrition)
-Home Education by Charlotte Mason (the only way to truly prep for our first official homeschool year, form 1B 😍)

not pictured: Little Women and Pride and Prejudice (both classics that I haven’t read since high school, so these are my bedtime and Sunday reading books for leisure ☺️) What are you reading right now? I love adding recommendations to add to my never ending list! 📚
